What a fantastic New Years wedding. Emily and Michael’s Union Hill wedding was the perfect way to bring in the New Year. I was stoked these two were planning a New Years wedding, and even more excited that it was going to be at the old stomping grounds, Union Hill Inn in Sonora, CA. My hometown! We had a blast hanging out in Felton for their engagements, so I was prepared for an awesome party come December 31.
I’ve realized that having a New Years wedding isn’t like having a wedding on or around any other holiday. I say if you’re gonna be partying all night anyways, you might as well get everyone together in the same place. I’ve shot many Union Hill weddings and not surprisingly this one was the most memorable.
Luckily our happy couple was interested in a first look, so we could utilize some perfect winter light for portraits. Wrapped in our winter formal wear, we tromped around the property before the sun set. It was cold and crisp and dry—couldn’t have expected better weather.
There were lots of candles, pine and burlap detailed across the property. It was the first time I’ve shot a Union Hill Inn ceremony at night. Needless to say it was spectacular. Afterward we partied til it was time to pass out the hats and horns. Midnight snack was served to tide everyone over—deep fried mac n’ cheese balls and grilled cheese with tomato soup. There were kisses and hugs all around. These two deserved the best wedding possible and I think they nailed it.
Thanks to the awesome couple and everyone there who were warm and welcoming. Congrats to Emily and Michael!
