Sonora Wedding Photographer: Carling and Scott’s Mountain Wedding

Sonora Wedding Photographers

My amazing wife Erin and I were lucky enough to visit home for Labor Day weekend, and in the process these Sonora wedding photographers got to be a part of a picture perfect wedding. Carling and Scott were probably made for each other a long long time ago. They are both people to look up to. And their marriage will be truly wonderful to watch grow. They were married outside of Sonora at El Dorado Ranch in Mountain Ranch, CA. It’s the coolest  little rustic getaway ranch place thing. It was a day full of fun friends and awkward speeches and amazing vegan food catered by the impeccable Lila and Sage (who catered our veggie wedding!) and the best vegan cake both my lovely wife and I have ever had (also by the impeccable Lila and Sage)! Below are some questions about their wedding that Carling and Scott answered for us!

A) Quick intro facts about the two of you lovebirds/engagement story???

We got engaged at the base of Bonnie’s Roof, a rock climb in the Gunks in NY. Scott had been planning to propose at the top of a climb, but I made him do a harder climb than he had been hoping for and he was afraid he would drop the ring if he brought it to the top.

B) Total budget + number of guests? (Please let us know if you’d like to keep this private)

$10,000 (including lodging for guests at the ranch for the weekend). We had 75 guests, 45 of which stayed with us.

C) Did you design/print your own invitations? Resources? Budgets for those items? (private?)

We were lucky enough to have a friend who makes wedding invitations as her side job and she did ours for us as our wedding gift!

D) Overall theme to your wedding? How did your venue play a part in it?

Outdoors. The venue was so beautiful we didn’t really need to do too much.

E) Favorite DIY projects? Resources for supplies?

We were both in our intern year during the months right before the wedding so we didn’t have much DIY time. I did develop a bit of an Etsy addiction though and found pretty much all of our decorations and wedding accessories on there.

F) What types of flowers did you use?

For table decorations we got a mix of paper flowers on Etsy, my favorite were the ones made out of old dress patterns and maps. We enlisted my mother-in-law and a family friend for the actual assembly on the day of. For bouqets and boutaniers we just got some loose flowers from a local florist and my girlfriends put them together beautifully.

G) Music! What songs played during the ceremony/1st dance etc?

We had a local bluegrass band for the ceremony and cocktail hour. My sister’s then fiance, now husband, DJ’d our whole reception! Our first dance was to Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

H) Where did all the fashion come from (with links if possible)?

My dress was J Crew: http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/weddingsandparties/forthebride/PRDOVR~26954/26954.jsp
The bridesmaids wore victoria’s secret wrap dresses

I) Please list all the awesome vendors involved in your wedding so we can give them a nice shout-out! (with links to their websites if possible)

J) Did you create a Pinterest board to hold all your wedding inspiration? Can you share the link?

K) How did you decide upon location or aesthetic?

We knew we wanted somewhere outdoors where all of our friends could stay with us for the weekend, so we looked on VRBO for larger properties. Once we found the ranch Scott’s mom and brother went up to check it out for us and we were sold.

L) Advice for other couples?

Getting married was so much fun! But being married is even better.

M) Anything else that made your wedding special?

Our whole wedding was made by the people who care about us. Not only was this the only way we could have had such an amazing event on our budget, but it also made it so meaningful. Our friends sculpted the vases we used for table centerpieces, brewed the beer, made our bouqets/boutaniers, put up all of the 100s of lights, and really just made us feel so loved. Your friends have talents, use them!
