Santa Margarita Ranch: History
Lauri and Karley got married at the beautiful Historic Santa Margarita Ranch on a perfect Memorial weekend. Santa Margarita Ranch is located on the Central California coast just outside of San Luis Obispo. It rests on nearly 14,000 acres of beautiful California landscape. It was originally recorded as an assistant mission for the nearby San Luis Mission. It continued prospering in cattle herding, so there are old buildings and farm vehicles and the beautiful barn that hosts beautiful events like this.
Everything about this wedding fit the epic richness of this unbelievable venue perfectly! Lauri and Karley are adventurists! There was an overlying ‘camping‘ theme with their RV, packed full of essential honeymoon supplies like bikes and canoes, parked outside the barn. They also had blue camp gear eating utensils and table settings.
They are crafty and handy – a lot of DIY went into the feel of the wedding. Looking through the slideshow of their wedding images, you’ll notice a lot of wildflowers, burlap and wood. There were banners and signs made from burlap and wooden hand-painted signs all over the place. On the table settings, lots of wood was used for the hand-built displays. There were centerpieces of beautiful wildflowers held daintily within hand-picked old glass bottle of various opacities and sizes. Everywhere you looked in the barn there were wildflowers, cacti and jars of candles covering every open space possible, even on the guys’ vests.
Pastel colored strips of cloth hung from all over the place. They were married in front of a hand made tapestry-like display of torn strips of cloth, fluttering continually through their ceremony. Old barrels were placed all over the ground, and one held the communion wine. During the ceremony, Lauri and Karley stood between beautiful faded window panes stood up on stands to frame the happy couple.
One of the most impressive details were the guys’ ties and bowties. All 12 were hand made by Karley’s talented and wonderful mother! Each one highlighted the subtle pastel-like colors of their color palette. She needs to start a wedding tie business! You don’t find that kind of special and committed touch in many weddings.
All of the flowers were a beautiful fit and the bridesmaids’ dresses couldn’t have been more perfect! They even had a HUGE donut bar! There were dozens and dozens of donuts that everyone couldn’t even finish!
The day went perfectly. After getting ready at the hotel, they remained out of sight from each other despite being next door. The bridal party all met at the Ranch and held a prayer circle where Lauri and Karley could pray together back-to-back without ruining the surprise of seeing each other! It was very sweet and kept the excitement to the max as long as possible.
The day ended perfectly with a glowstick tunnel! The guests lead the happy newlyweds to their getaway camper stuffed with all they needed for their next adventure on the road. Shooting this wedding with such an amazing couple and seeing all the love that them and their family and friends poured in it made our hearts swell with happiness.
